Meet Luke Gilman, Founder & Managing Member

As a founder of Flywheel Law PLLC, Luke is an experienced and accomplished trial lawyer that delivers results. Luke spent the first 15 years of his legal career at Jackson Walker LLP, one of the largest firms in Texas, where he litigated disputes in international and domestic arbitration, technology, energy, and media industries, and maintained a general commercial dispute practice. He left Jackson Walker in 2026 to found Flywheel as a boutique to leverage technology to expand access to legal services and advise nonprofit and small and medium business governance and operations. Luke combines legal training with business acumen and a strong dedication to making the community a better place to live, work, worship, and do business.
Luke is also active in the community, having served as a volunteer prosecutor for the City of Houston and serving on the board and former President of theHispanic Bar Association of Houston (HisBA) and co-founder and board member of Generation to Generation, a nonprofit working to improve the lives of children interacting with the legal system.

Am. Midstream (Alabama Intrastate), LLC v. Rainbow Energy Mktg. Corp., 714 S.W.3d 572 (Tex. 2025)
Along with Amy Baird, Tre Fischer, and Richard Howell, Luke represented American Midstream in a case in which the Texas Supreme Court ultimately vindicated American Midstream’s interpretation of a balancing agreement for natural gas transportation.
Emmons et al v. Gaimin AG et al, 4:25-cv-00824 (S.D. Tex. 2025) (Werlein, J.)
Along with Carter Dickson, represented a Swiss gaming company against claims of fraud and misrepresentation related to in-game cryptocurrency and won dismissal of all claims on Rule 12(b)(6) motion to dismiss.
Burke v Mundin et al, 4:22-cv-04364 (S.D. Tex. 2024) (Rosenthal, J.)
Along with Baker Howrey, Luke represented a forensic psychiatrist and registered nurse against claims of improperly medicating a patient and obtained dismissal on summary judgment.
Jones et al v. Apex Energy Solutions et al, 4:22-cv-00826 (S.D. Tex. 2023) (Bryan, J.)
Along with Michael Drab, represented a Houston construction company against claims of religious and racial discrimination and won dismissal of all claims on Rule 12 Motions to dismiss.
Fidelity Bank N.A. v. Corwin, 4:21-cv-01711 (S.D. Tex. 2022) (Rosenthal, J.)
Along with Lauren Williams and Justin Lee, Luke represented Fidelity Bank in pursuing breach of contract claims on an defaulted loan. The case settled at mediation shortly after Fidelity Bank filed a summary judgment motion.
PlainsCapital Bank v. Gonzalez, 598 S.W.3d 427 (Tex. App.–Corpus Christi-Edinburg 2020).
Along with Sean Jordan, Danica Milios, and Adam Aston, Luke represented PlainsCapital Bank and won an appeal overturning an arbitration award in which the arbitrator had been appointed in derogation of the process agreed by the parties.

Along with John Edwards and Amanda Bush, Luke represented a local newspaper on appeal in a widely-publicized libel case. The judgment against the newspaper was vacated by the Texas First Court of Appeals, a win that was affirmed by the Texas Supreme Court.
Myers et al v. Dr. Phil Organization et al, No. 1:2014cv00007 (D. Utah 2015) (Campbell, J.)
Along with Chip Babcock, Nancy Hamilton, and Brett Tolman, Luke represented a television personality and related production company against claims that a participant in the television show was duped into entering a private third party treatment facility where she was kept against her will and won dismissal of all claims on Rule 12 motions.

Along with Chip Babcock, Amanda Eichenbaum, and Bill Powers Luke represented a Texas District Court Judge before a Special Court of Review appointed by the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court and obtained a complete exoneration for her use of social media to educate the public about proceedings in her courtroom.

Successfully represented offshore seismic imaging company in ICC arbitration proceedings in London against claims brought by joint venture partner for breach of contract.
Successfully represented an offshore drilling company in ICDR arbitration proceedings in Houston to assert breach of contract dispute after South American national oil company claimed that contracts were nullified based on alleged bribery of foreign officials.
Successfully represented central American commodity company in ICC arbitration in Mexico City against claims of breach of contract and fraud related to maritime sugar transaction.
Successfully represented oil and gas producer in AAA arbitration against claims that negotiation of a successor gas transportation agreement was in violation of a right of first refusal in favor of midstream gas company.
Successfully represented an oil and gas consulting company in ICC arbitration in Houston to assert breach of contract claims against oil and gas producer that refused to pay success fee related to natural gas facility.
Successfully represented law firm partner in dispute with former firm.
Successfully represented oil and gas producer in AAA arbitration regarding alleged conflicting dedication areas arising from overlapping assets following a merger.
Successfully represented law firm in AAA emergency arbitration proceedings arising out of dispute over client relationships.
Successfully represented commodity trading company in ad hoc arbitration proceedings against owner of renewable energy certificates in breach of contract claim.
Successfully represented software company in AAA arbitration proceedings against co-owners of the company in governance and ownership dispute.
Successfully represented members of a nonprofit in governance dispute related to proposed gift subject to unusually restrictive terms.
Successfully represented officers and directors of crude oil transportation company against claims of breach of fiduciary duty and shareholder oppression brought by minority shareholder.
Successfully represented companies in internal investigations related to employment, governance, and FCPA issues.
